ALBERTO
MEDA
Alberto Meda
was born in 1945 in Lenno Tremezzina, a small town in the province
of Como. In 1969 he received a degree in mechanical engineering
from Milan's Polytechnic.
After four years
at Magneti Marelli as an assistant in the production department,
he became the head of the technical department at Kartell in 1973,
where he was in charge of overseeing all designs and research for
technological developments in polyurethane foam.
In 1979 he began
to work as a freelance designer and product engineering consultant.
He worked with the Alfa Romeo Auto design division for four years.
He currently
provides designs to: Alias, Colombo Design, Italtel Telematica,
Luceplan.
He won the Golden
Compass in 1987 for the design sections of the book entitled "La
materia dell'invenzione" by Ezio Manzini (Arcadia) and in 1989
with his "Lola" lamp for Luceplan.
His designs
have been shown in Tokyo (1990, one-man show), Osaka (1991) and
Milan (Triennale, 1992).
He currently
lives and works in Milan, where he is a professor at Domus Academy.

AMBROGIO
ROSSARI
Ambrogio Rossari,
born in 1943 in Salò, graduated in 1966 from the School of Industrial
Design in Venice.
Pozzis
"Piemonte" collection is one of the first projects he
designed. He received a Masters in Product Designfrom the
ITT Institute of Design in Chicago. After returning to Italy, he
worked for Studio Bonetto. In 1971 he became a freelance designer,
while in 1983 he founded the Rossari & Associati studio. He
has designed for many companies in Italy and abroad, including Accornero,Appiani,
Bilumen, Carrara & Matta, Cesame, Colombo Design, Dado Ceramica,
Duratex, Duker, Eschenbach, Erre.Ci.Gi., Fastigi, F.lli Guzzini,
F.lli Frattini,
Gedy, IKEA, Inda, Lave Bath, Olivari, OMS, Philips, Pozzi, Industrie
Pirelli, Rapsel, Saniplast, Technova, Tropical and Vorberg. He designed
fair booths and exhibit areas for Cristallerie Livellara, Italtrade,
Keravem, NCR, and Valdadige and also designed the exhibit "The
Italian Bath" at ICE of Los Angeles. He also worked as a graphic
designer. He has held numerous conferences, including "Design
in Ceramics" at Federceramica (1990) and "The Bathroom:
Myth and Reality in the 90s" at the PEG International
Convention (1990). He gave a speech on the Italian bathroom at N.K.B.A.
of Atlanta (1992), three seminars on body care accessories at the
University of Milans Faculty of Architecture (from 1992 to
1994), and a speech on "The Future of Bathroom Design"
at A.D.I. Incontri in Bologna. He has participated in international
design juries in 1988 and 1990, the year he taught Design at I.E.D.
in Milan. He received the "Design Plus" - Frankfurt Fair
award in 1987 for Spiegelau glasses and the "Design Innovation"
- Essen award for the "Floria" bathtub by Albatros System
in 1989. He has been an ADI Golden Compass finalist several times:
in 1987 for the System collection by Cesame, in 1989 for the "Particolari"
table set by F.lli Guzzini, and in 1991 for the "Particolari"
napkin rings and dishes by F.lli Guzzini, the "Tempra"
single-lever mixing unit by F.lli Frattini, and for the "Logic"
shower stall by 2S Cesana.

ANGELETTI
E RUZZA DESIGN
Silvana Angeletti
was born in Rieti in 1969, Daniele Ruzza was born in Rome in 1967.
After
receiving their Degrees in Industrial Design from I.S.I.A. in Rome,
they opened their design studio: Angeletti e Ruzza Design.
They
have participated in a number of competitions, winning both awards
and acknoledgments: quinto premio "Il design degli oggetti"
Civica Galleria d'Arte Moderna di Gallarate (Varese), menzione d'onore
"La ritualità in tavola" Serafino Zani (Brescia), primo
e secondo premio "Changing Colour Lamp" MID Italia (Milano),
vincitori del concorso "Interreg Design Competition '95"
e del concorso "ST/ART" promosso dall'argenteria G. De
Vecchi (Milano).
They
work with Italian companies which produce household goods, nicks-nacks
and and furniture, like Airon, Albis Fumagalli, Colombo Design,
Fratelli Guzzini, Laboratorio Pesaro Bucci, Rede, Q.B., R.S.V.P.
and Serafino Zani.
Among
their projects of interior decoration is the Quinto Assio Hotel
in Rieti
(near
Rome).

ANNA BARTOLI
Anna Bartoli,
born in Milan in 1963, in 1988 earned her degree in architecture
from the Polytechnic in Milan with a thesis on urban renewal for
an area of the city within the Spanish walls.
She
learned the ropes by working first with her father, architect Carlo
Bartoli, in his studio, and later with architect Cini Boeri, concentrating
on exhibition dressing in museums and in renovations of residential
interiors and commercial areas.
She
currently lives and works in Monza, where she collaborates with
the Studio Bartoli on environmental renovation projects, building
plans, interior and industrial design.
She
works for many companies, among which are Colombo Design and Rossi
di Albizzate, designing kitchens, bathroom accessories, upholstered
furniture, seats, lighting systems and wooden residential furniture.
At
the same time she works on shoppping areas and renovation projects.
In
1996, her sofa "Tube", designed for Rossi di Albizzate,
has been awarded with the Award for Good Industrial Design of the
Hannover Industrie Forum.

BONINI SPICCIOLATO
Bonini Spicciolato
Associates collaborated an collaborate with: Aquachiara, Artifort,
Bic Italia, Box Cucine, Cavari Officina, Colombo Design, DDA Domus
Design Agency (Domus Academy), Ferr Art, Fine Factory, GB Arredamenti,
Gedy, Glas, ILL Sud Uffici, Le Cose Nostre, Lumiance, MAS, Sedie
& Company, Shibasaki, Taipei Design Center, Tombow, Uchida,
Unitalia, Viceversa, Vittorio Bonacina, Zanussi-Rex, Zeritalia.
Some of their works are permanently exhibited at the Cooper Hewitt
Museum in New York and at the Georges Pompidou Center in Paris.
The "Arctic" series, designed for Gedy, has selected by
the MOMA (New York 1995, "Mutant Materials in Contemporary
Design") for its innovations. They have taken part to several
exhibitions in such cities as Paris, Rome, New York, Venice, Florence,
London, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Thessaloniki, Barcelona, Tokyo and
Munich.

Santina Bonini, born in 1961, graduated in 1990 from the School
of Architecture in Florence. Between 1988 and 1991 she collaborated
with Andrea Branzi in numerous projects, including the New Museum
of Contemporary Art in Arezzo, and participated in the international
competition "Fiabilandia, the Ecological Park of the Imaginary".
In 1992 she was a founding member of DIN (industrial design consultants).
She works as adviser for several Corean companies.

Ernesto Spicciolato, born in 1957, graduated in 1983 from the School
of Architecture in Florence. Between 1987 and 1990 he collaborated
with Makio Hasuike, projecting for Ariston, Gedy, Indesit, Lamy,
Maxer, Merloni Termo Sanitari, MH Way, Mobil Girgi and Villeroy
& Boch. Together with Andrea Branzi, he won the 2nd prize in
the international "New York Waterfront Competition" in
1987 and he won the 1st prize in the national competition "Piazza
Plebiscito and VII Novembre", Castel di Sangro (AQ) in 1988.
He was a founding member of "Elettra" (1982), "Bolidismo"
(1985) and "DIN" (1992). He taught "Fashion and Product
Design at the Accademia delle Belle Arti, in Florence and he has
been tutor at the seminar "Discover New Potential in ceramics"
held at Domus Academy of Milan, I.D. course 1996.
They
both teach in Narai Academy of Industrial Design in Seoul.

CARLO BARTOLI
Carlo Bartoli,
born in 1931 in Milan, began his career as an architect in his birth-place,
after receiving his degree from the Polytechnic. His main interests
lie in interior and industrial design.
He
has created designs for: Accademia, Antonangeli, Arc Linea, Arflex,
Artelano, Bonacina Italia, Colombo Design, Con & Con, Kartell,
Matteograssi, Merati, Nobili, Oscam-Osi, Rimadesio, Rossi di Albizzate,
Segis, Tisettanta, UCG Confalonieri, Ycami. He is the artistic director
for Colombo Design and Segis.
Carlo
Bartoli taught design at the Advanced Institutes of Industrial Design
in Florence and in Rome. Lately his interests have broadened to
the architectural and environmental conservation. At the moment
he gives one-theme lessons and seminars to the Polytechnic Schools
of Milan and Turin on methods for industrial design and the relation
between designer and industry.
He
has participated in numerous exhibitions: Milan (Triennale 1968,
1983, Eurodomus 1970, XVI Compasso dOro), New York (Museum
of Contemporary Crafts, 1968, Museum of Modern Arts, 1969), Libyan
(Biennale of Industrial Design, 1968), London (Victoria and Albert
Museum, 1970), Turin (Eurodomus 1972), Prague (Museum of Decorative
Arts, 1972), Kyoto (1979), Hong Kong (1979), Athens (Zappion Megaron
1980), Cologne (Stadtmuseum 1981), Buenos Aires (monographic exhibition
"Carlo Bartoli: thirty years of design", 1997).
His
"Gaia" armchair for Arflex is part of the permanent collection
of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, while his "Sophia"
chair for Bonaldo is part of the permanent collection at the Architectural
Museum in Libyan. The armchair "Breeze" produced by Segis,
is part of the Vitra Design Museum and of the Thessaloniki Design
Museum collections. It has been bestowed with the ID Design Distinction
Award 1996 and with the Red Dot - Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen
in Germany. The sofa "Tube" produced by Rossi dAlbizzate
and the armchair Breeze have been assigned the IF Award for Good
Industrial Design in 1996 and 1997 at Hannover, Germany.

CASTIGLIA
ASSOCIATI
The Castiglia
Associati studio was founded in 1982 by Sergio Castiglia, Marinella
Santarelli and Tiziana Tazza, who are still directing it.
The studio focuses
on interior architecture and industrial design projects for furniture,
kitchens, and mass distribution systems, as well as stands for trade
fairs and furnishings for areas open to the public.
The studio has
worked or works with: Accademia, Albatros System, Arc Linea, Binova,
Colombo Design, Confalonieri, Feg, Interby, Intercom Casa, Merati,
Mobilsystem, Potocco, Modulo 3, Rifra, Scavolini, Segis, Stilwood.
- Sergio Castiglia
was born in Terni in 1951. After attending the School of Architecture,
he focused on studying the manufacturing and image of furniture
companies.
- Marinella
Santarelli and Tiziana Tazza, both born in Terni in 1955, received
their degrees in architecture in Rome University in 1981. In 1980,
they had begun working with Sergio Castiglia.

JASPER MORRISON
Jasper Morrison
was born in London in 1959 and graduated in Design at Kingston Polytechnic
Design School, London and at The Royal College of Art for Post Graduated
studies. In 1984 he studied at Berlins HdK on a scholarship.
In 1986 he set up an Office for Design in London. Jasper Morrison
- Office for Design design for many companies, among which are Alessi,
Alias, BETTE & Co., Cappellini, Colombo Design, Flos, FSB, Hannoversche
Verkehrsbetrieb (Bus Stop and Expo 2000 Tram, Mabeg & Co., Magis,
Rosenthal, SCP, Sony, Üstra, Vitra International.
He
takes part in many events and exhibitions, among which: Documenta
8 in Kassel (following the project for The Reuters New Centre)
in 1987; "Design Werkstadt" at the DAAD Gallery in Berlin
(1988); "Some new items for the house" - Part 1 (1988)
and Part 2 (1989) in Berlin; personal exhibition for Cappellini
at the Spazio Romeo Gigli (1989); exhibition "Progetto-Oggetto"
with Irvine at Cappellini (1992); installation at the Austrian Museum
of Applied Art (1993); personal exhibition at the Binnen Gallery

Ten" Award and the Nord Rhein Westfalen Design Zentrum Prize.
In 1997 he was awarded the IF Transportation Design Prize and the
Ecology Award with a vehicle projected for the Hannoversche Verkehrsbetrieb
(Hannover Transportation Authority) for the Expo 2000. In 1997 he
holds a conference at the Royal Institute of British Architects
in London. Some of his works are in the permanent collections of
several museums, including the New York MOMA, where the chair "Lima"
(produced by Cappellini) is exposed.

KAIROS
The Kairos studio,
founded in 1980 by Massimo Bonetti, Giuseppe Manente and Abramo
Mion, focuses on the building, industrial design and furniture fields.
The studio has
created designs for: B&B Italia, B&B Office, Colombo Design,
Dada, Ellebi, Nordica, Dolomite, Molteni and C., the City of Venice,
Murakoshi Japan, Samsonite Italia, Fincantieri S.p.A.
In 1984, the
Kairos studio won the Golden Compass and "Furnishing of the
Year" prize from the Schöner Wohnen magazine, with its "Sisamo"
closet for B&B Italia.
In 1987, the
studio was chosen for another Golden Compass for its Dolomite ski
boot, for "Futura" kitchen produced by Dada-Molteni, as
well as for "Abak", designed for B&B Office in 1989.
- Massimo Bonetti,
born in 1949 in Turin, received his degree in engineering in Padova,
where his academic and research careers are based.
- Giuseppe Manente,
born in Mestre in 1947, received his degree in Architecture in Venice.
He began his career in 1973 in the civil and industrial building
sector for both government-owned and private groups.
- Abramo Mion
was born in Mirano (near Venice) in 1951. He studied engineering
in Padua and architecture in Venice. His main focus is on interior
design and he is currently on the design staff for a noted furniture
maker.

LUCA
COLOMBO
Born in Monza
(near Milan) in 1968, Luca Colombo is the son of Mario Colombo,
who founded with his brother Tranquillo the handle manufacturing
company of the same name.
He attends the
courses of the Architecture Faculty at the Politecnico University
of Milan.
He has collaborated
with the office of the architect Carlo Bartoli.
In 1996, he
became the coordinator of the Colombo Design designer team, with
whom he develops projects - particularly the design of handles for
doors and windows - assesses their feasibility and marketability.
Currently he
lives in Renate, near Milan, where he also works as an industrial
designer.

MAKIO
HASUIKE
Makio Hasuike,
born in Tokyo in 1938 and of Japanese nationality, earned his degree
at the "University of Arts of Tokyo" in 1962. He has been
active in Milan, Italy, since 1963 as designer in a great number
of sectors, cooperating with Italian and European firms of major
importance.
In 1983 he created
his own company in Fizzonasco (Milan) specialised in fashion bags
and articles for office use recognisable by the brand name MHWay.
The company is considered one of the most innovative of the sector,
gaining recognition and appreciation from a vast public.
An attentive
observer of changes in consume trends and in quality of life, during
his thirty years old activity he received many prices: he won the
"Compasso d'Oro" in 1979 with "Osa" electrical
appliances as well as fifteen awards; he was awarded prizes during
seven editions of the International Competition for Industrial Design
held in Ljubliana, and during four editions of the Design Plus held
in Frankfurt as well as four editions during the Design Innovationen
of Essen. Gold medal for exposition preparation and art work at
the "XV Triennale di Milano", his brush conteiner "Cucciolo"
(Gedy) is at the MOMA permanent exposition in New York.
He also cooperates
with: Alenia, Ave, Colombo Design, Fiam, Gaggia, Gedy, Gruppo Merloni,
Panasonic, Pozzi, Quattrifolio, WMF, Villeroy & Boch.

OTTAVIO
DI BLASI
Ottavio Di Blasi,
born in Milan in 1954, received his degree in architecture in his
birthplace, where he later founded the Di Blasi Associati studio.
Between 1979 and 1989 he worked closely with Renzo Piano on several
projects, including the San Nicola stadium in Bari.
His own professional
base is in Milan, where he divides his time between architecture
and industrial design.
He is a professor
of Technological Studies at the Faculty of Architecture at Milan's
Polytechnic, and he also teaches at the Natural Structures Research
Center of the European Institute of Design.
He has created
designs for: AFV Beltrami, B&B Italia, Colombo Design, IPAE,
TAD Italia, Terry Plastic. He has also worked for the Archbishop's
curia in Bari, Finarvedi, Matarrese S.p.A., the Government of Malta,
the University of Bari and Milan's Polytechnic.
